The Doge’s Palace was initially built in the 800s but then destroyed due to a fire. It was then rebuilt in the 1340s and remains as it was to this day. It is of Gothic architecture and is considered one of Venice’s main landmarks. It was built as the residence of the Doge, the supreme authority of the former Venetian Republic, and today is the site of a museum, including the hidden treasures and passageways of the Doge.
