Punta della Dogana
Punta della Dogana separates the Grand Canal from the Giudecca Canal. For its strategic location it was the house of the Custom and of the Salt Warehouses. During the fifteenth century, the Sea Customs House, which had previously been near the Arsenale, was transferred to the western point of Dorsoduro borough.

San Giorgio Maggiore
You will have a view of the Island of san Giorgio Maggiore, with its beautiful Renaissance Church built by Palladio in the Renaissance and the belltower resembling the bigger one in St Mark’s Square. The island was once known as the Island of Cypress Trees before it became an important Benedectine monastery.

Staff were accommodating. They allowed us to take the ride despite us being 40 minutes early. The gondola rower was friendly too. Despite without guide, he would hum nice romantic tunes throughout the journey and would intro us some sights in simple English. He was also adept and skilful in rowing, making the ride very comfortable.

Watch out for high tide as some arrea flood

Though it was cold and raining, I did enjoy the gondola ride through the smaller side canals, then out to the main canal in front of St. Mark's Basilica. The 'commentary' was fairly interesting, but kind of short. I probably would have enjoyed the tour more in better weather and could have got some better photos, but I'm glad I did it ... probably won't be in Venice ever again, at least not any time soon.

mediocre ride,i thought they would try harder since there are different agencies to choose from. We were given headphones and a lil device that we could use for listening to our host. The signal was horrible and he spoke very fast. It was extremely hard to understand him. Once on the gondolas he stopped talking and the person taking us around never said a word.
